Bark
The Bark project started with the simple idea of investigating the relationship between materials and tools, in this case wood and the CNC mill. Various types of woods, which had been processed from their natural tree state down to rectangular boards, were transformed again, returning a semblance of their once natural state with a new digital bark. Through a series of test, the digital bark for each of the pieces was developed in terms of its geometry, resolution, CNC milling bit step-over spacing and speed, specific to each of the pieces of wood’s original bark type, grain direction and wood density.
